Roulette tables at casinos have a maximum bet amount, which is counter intuitive given the casino wants people to lose money. Having a maximum bet prevents people from using the Martingale Strategy because at some point they must stop betting.
What is the Martingale Strategy when betting?
In theory, if there were no limit to betting amounts the Martingale Strategy guarantees the player doesn’t lose any money. With each loss the player doubles their next bet. With even money bets on Roulette such as Red or Black eventually the player wins. If they have continuously doubled their wager they get back all previous losses plus a little bit more.
A billionaire could continue doubling until they won. By placing a limit on the amount bet the casino ensure that, eventually, martingale players must stop chasing their losses.
Martingale example based on a starting bet of $10
If the table had a $1,000 maximum wager and you used the Martingale you would exceed the maximum after 7 losses in a row. When choosing Red or Black it is extremely likely you could lose 7 times. Therefore the Martingale has been thwarted!
That is why casinos have a maximum wager limit on gaming tables.
