Just beginning your Roulette Adventure

If you are just beginning your Roulette Adventure then hold on to your butt, it’s gonna be a wild ride! The first thing to remember is don’t place stupid bets and spread the load, particularly in the beginning.

By spread the load I mean place bets in multiple places rather than putting everything on a single number. Roulette is very profitable for casinos and they rely on people making crazy bets because the house always has an edge. Your goal, until you have some experience, is to increase your own edge while reducing theirs.

Increasing your own edge will reduce your payout when you win but don’t let that get you down. My personal mantra is “be a smart gambler, not a greedy one” and that means be happy with small wins because with each win your bankroll increases.

Spreading the load – Betting on Roulette

An example of spreading the load is betting on 1-18 or 19-36 which pays you even money. Even money wagers effectively give back what you bet plus your bet. If you bet $5 you win $5 plus your original $5 – $10 in total. Even money bets give you the greatest chance of winning.

Don’t be fooled though, a wager on Red/Black, Odd/Even, or 1-18/19-36 does not give you a 50/50 chance because 0 is in play. If you’re silly enough to play American Roulette then both 0 and 00 are in play, both of which you lose on.

Practice on a Roulette Simulator

If you think you have worked out a bulletproof can’t lose strategy then test it on a Roulette Simulator because throwing hard-earned cash into it. Most strategies ignore 0 or 00 and that is where they come unstuck. Try this simulator – it’s free.

I can comfortably say no bullet-proof roulette strategy exists, but knock yourself out try.

Be a smart gambler, not a greedy one

When I say be smart what I mean is don’t put large bets on single numbers. The lure of 35:1 is strong but you must resist if you can. If you want to move away from even-money bets try Columns or 1st, 2nd, or 3rd all which pay 3:1. Again, small wins over time add up to good money. Being a clever player can get you $100 to $200 profit per hour, which I expect is more than you get in your everyday job.

Roulette is a game of chance and as such there is always a chance you will lose. In fact, eventually you will lose no matter how good you are at playing and predicting where the ball will land next.

Play European Roulette if you can

European Roulette has a single 0 and the odds of winning a straight up wager are 1:37, however, the Americans screwed it up by putting an zero. They have 0 and 00 thereby giving you a 1:38 chance of winning. The rudest part is the payouts are the same as European! The pesky yanks are considering adding a 000 into the game which increases the house edge. Greedy bastards if you ask me and I hope nobody ever plays it when a 000 is on the table.

Ultimately the decision to put 000, or even the 00, will have been made by a Casino CEO in-order to boost profits and therefore their own bonuses. They should be ashamed of themselves!

Learn the Roulette Wheel & Table layout

If you look at the table and compare with the wheel you’ll notice they are configure differently. Examine where groups of numbers are located next to each other. Notice things like 27, 30, and 36 are very close to each other as they are on the table. Just those numbers alone represent nearly 8% of the wheel.

It is the little things you learn along the way which ultimately helps you win.

Avoid arcade style roulette

In my opinion arcade type roulette tables are not to be trusted, even if they are networked with a group of other machines. Playing an electronic table with a live wheel and croupier spinning the ball is OK, but the purely electronic games are a “must avoid” game. See this article for my experiences with them.

Roulette offers better odds than most other casino games

When playing Roulette your odds are much better than if you were playing slots. That alone tells me it is a game worth learning and playing regularly. 1:37 vs. 1:5,000,000 chance should motivate people to stay clear of slot machines.

If you see something crook stop playing

Casinos expect you to follow the rules of the game and similarly we expect the casino to follow the rules too. If you see them not following the rules you should stop playing. Wait for another croupier or comeback another day.

For example, the ball must do three full rotations before it drops into the base of the wheel. Also, the wheel should be spinning and the ball rolling a few seconds before “no more bets” is called. I have had a croupier call “no more bets” then waiting 5 to 10 seconds before rolling the ball and wheel. That occurred at Crown Casino, Perth ,Western Australia. That is a dodgy practice and has to be avoided. Stop playing and walk away! Tell someone with authority and don’t return until it has been resolved.

Never bet more than you can afford to lose

Before playing roulette make certain you can afford to comfortably lose it all. Roulette is a game of chance and there are people who gamble their monthly mortgage or rent in the hope of winning big. Nobody wants to be that person.

When I visit the casino I understand that every cent of my bankroll is disposable and wont hurt us financially in any way if I lose it.

Happy Roulette Adventures everyone!
